Many years ago I remember going to the health shop in search of a super nourishing face moisturiser to combat my very dull and dry skin. The sales assistant recommended I take a good look at my diet and inner health, as that has just as great an effect, if not more, than environmental factors such as the dry, cold air. Sounds obvious now, but it was a revelation at the time, and worth considering: how can I get that radiant natural glow, from the inside out?
Two of the best ways to support healthy, glowing skin from the inside are: (1) to support your body’s process of toxin elimination, and (2) to ensure you are well-hydrated. A great way to cover both bases is to drink Tulsi CLEANSE… and here is why!
The Importance of Detoxification for Glowing Skin
Detoxification is a natural process performed continuously by our clever bodies, to remove unwanted toxins in the form of waste. Our liver and kidneys are our major detoxification organs, eliminating their wastes through the bowels as faeces and urinary tract as urine.
Toxins are also released through the pores of our skin via sweat. If our detox pathways are clogged or sluggish, then the other avenues for toxin removal have to work harder, e.g. if our liver and kidneys are overwhelmed, then toxins may present as dull, discoloured skin, or even skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema or acne……read more here.
Supporting our body’s natural cleansing processes is a wonderful way to promote toxin removal and keep our skin clear and glowing.
Bitter Herbs Support Toxin Removal
According to Ayurveda there are six tastes in our diet (sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter and astringent) that are comprised of different combinations of the elements (earth, water, fire, air, space). Each of these therefore have a unique set of qualities (heavy, light, wet, dry, warm, cold) and affect us differently (e.g. increase or decrease vata, pitta and kapha). What we eat and drink will affect our current state of balance (or imbalance!)
Sometimes it is easy to pick, for example if you eat chilli you will immediately feel its warming properties and you may even sweat! Different qualities of foods also affect us emotionally and mentally e.g. heavy foods can make us lethargic and slow mentally and heating foods like alcohol can make us fiery or aggressive.
Bitter herbs (like rocket) are comprised of space and air so have light, dry and cold qualities, the effect of which is to decrease kapha (dampness) and pitta (heat) and increase vata (space). They increase ‘space’ in the body by draining and drying excess fluids and support detoxification by encouraging the flow of bile and the activity of the liver.
Excess dampness, ama (toxins) and heat are reduced as the bitter flavour dries and drains them out. So consuming bitter foods and drinks can assist with the cleansing process of toxin removal.
Tulsi CLEANSE contains bitter herbs that are known to support liver and kidney function.
Tulsi CLEANSE Tea Helps Detox for Clear, Glowing Skin
Tulsi CLEANSE Tea contains a carefully balanced blend of herbs to facilitate the removal of toxins by supporting your liver and kidneys each day. Well-known Ayurvedic bitter herbs: Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata), Bhumiamalaki (Phyllanthus niruri) and Katuki (Picrorrhiza kurroa) assist the process of drying and draining out the toxins. To offset their cooling qualities, these herbs are beautifully balanced with the pungent, warming Tulsi, Ginger and Turmeric.
Tulsi protects against the damage caused by toxic compounds and ‘enables the body to more effectively transform and eliminate toxins by enhancing the activity of liver detoxification enzymes such as the cytochrome P450 enzymes, which deactivates toxic chemicals and enables them to be safely excreted.’ (1)
Tulsi really is an allrounder for natural beauty! ‘Tulsi is credited with giving luster to the complexion, sweetness to the voice and fostering beauty, intelligence, stamina and a calm emotional disposition.’ (1)
Tulsi CLEANSE Tea is extremely beneficial and worth the bitterness due to the vital role it plays in supporting healthy liver and kidney detoxification processes. You might find you come to enjoy the bitterness! If you find the bitterness intense, try these simple hacks found in this video.
And of course, if we are dehydrated, it will show in our skin. Drinking warm water throughout the day is a wonderful way to stay hydrated, especially lovely is sipping herbal tea and adjusting our blends as the seasons change.
